Peter-Blake-Art-Bus

Vintage at Goodwood is proud to present for the first time ever THE ROCK & ROLL PUBLIC LIBRARY aboard the show-stopping PETER BLAKE CCA ART BUS at this year’s inaugural festival at the Goodwood Estate in West Sussex, August 13-15. The Clash guitarist and joint frontman’s rarely-seen personal archive and collection of rock memorabilia will feature on an original 1980s double-decker redesigned by Sir Peter Blake in his signature pop art style.

In true Vintage spirit, the on-site art experience will combine music, fashion and design all curated under one beautiful (mobile) roof, fulfilling Mick Jones’s ambition to house THE ROCK & ROLL PUBLIC LIBRARY on a touring bus. Jones’ library previously launched at Ladbroke Grove Underground in July 2009.

Mick Jones, former lead guitarist and vocalist for The Clash said:

“Peter Blake was The One when we were at art school - he's the father of British Pop Art.  It's an honour to have my Library on his bus...I'm looking forward to a mobile celebration of our collective cultural memory.  That's history.“

Sir Peter Blake, iconic British pop artist added: “Since launching the Art Bus in May 2009, I’ve found it provides the perfect location for any artist to display his or her work in a quirky and intimate setting . We’re honored to partner with Mick Jones at the Vintage at Goodwood festival and look forward to showcase his collection of rock star memorabilia. Look out for spontaneous performances to take place from the bus’ upper deck balcony while videos and records will be played all day and night downstairs!”

MECCANO MONUMENT

Will Nash, Artworks and Meccano  are collaborating with visitors to the vintage festival on a temporary monument to the visionary designer and inventor - R. Buckminster Fuller. We will be using over 40,000 pieces of Meccano to construct a large structure from ‘Bucky Balls’; the size and form of the structure will depend on the participation of visitors. So if you are a Meccano nut, or just curious, come on over and lend a hand. On the Sunday we will be giving the Bucky Balls away to anyone who wants one, first come first served.

Whatson- Art-RetroMeccano

Since 2004, sculptor Will Nash| has undertaken projects in the public realm, working with groups of people to create sculptures or other works of art that may or may not have a function. Will is notable for his innovative use of materials and his ingenious ways of collecting information that inform the nature of these works of art.

Artworks| project manages art commissions and collections for public and private projects. Client commissions range from corporate art investment projects to consultation workshops for publicly funded institutions.

Meccano| is the classic British model construction system comprising    of      re-usable metal strips, plates, angle girders, wheels, axles and gears, with nuts and bolts to connect the pieces. It enables the building of working models and mechanical devices. It was invented in 1901 in England by Frank Hornby and manufactured by the British company, Meccano Ltd, between 1908 and 1980.

Sir Harold (Harry) Walter Kroto is an English chemist and one of the three recipients to share the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. As a child, he was fascinated by his Meccano set. Kroto credits Meccano, amongst other things, with developing skills useful in scientific research. In 1985 he discovered the existence of a very stable carbon molecule with 60 carbon atoms – the C60.  Whilst trying to figure out the form of this molecule, which appeared to be spherical in shape, and thus rather unique and complex in nature, he recalled seeing Buckminster Fuller’s Montreal Dome and decided to try to construct a model of C60 in Meccano to see how it could possibly exist, the resulting 60 node geodesic sphere is the only shape that can represent the C60 molecule, so he christened the material “Buckminster Fullerene”, known as “Bucky Balls” for short.

Bucky Balls are an arrangement of 12 pentagons linked by hexagons, familiar to most people as the arrangement of panels on a traditional football, there are 60 linked nodes and 90 struts, or connectors, forming a perfect sphere.Whatson-Art-Meccano
