The High Street - The Great British High Street - an institution in itself – it is the hub of the town, great for people watching and, of course, everyone loves to shop. So we thought this should be celebrated too, along with all the great shops, café, bars and bustle that make a High Street buzz with life. And how will we manage that? Well, without giving too much away…We thought we would simply build our own!
Vintage at Goodwood will offer festival enthusiasts much more than music alone. The Vintage High Street, with the attention to detail of a film set will feature Waitrose (there’s no excuse for not eating well), John Lewis and a series of “pop up” shops from the likes of The Body Shop, Dr Martens and even a recreation of Oxfam’s first shop from 1947. Amongst other renowned brands and shops from the past and present there will be salons that will style hair in vintage fashions (think beehive or duck’s tail) fit for your club of choice and galleries exhibiting classic design and photography from the last 5 decades.
The Vintage High Street will be a place to shop and promenade; people watch and enjoy the surreal experience of authentic cafes in the middle of the South Downs National Park. Keep your eyes peeled for pop-up catwalk shows, providing great eye candy, and a level of glamour that you won’t find at any other festival.
The Marketplace - Just off the High St, vintage lovers can spend hours in The Vintage Marketplace. Vintage at Goodwood is the annual meeting place for the world’s purveyors of fine vintage clothing. Our Marketplace will be the world’s biggest dressing up box... From exquisite 1920s gowns, to clothing charities hosting 80s clothes swap-a-thons, to home wares and accessories. Vintage at Goodwood is the annual celebration of cool second-hand clothes.
The Timeline – Through the Vintage Timeline we will examine the lineage of art, design and the wider creative industries - culminating in Future vintage - future gazing about what we as a nation will be celebrating in 25 years. The Vintage timeline works its way around the site and charts the evolution of 20th century product, art and design, cinema, TV, fashion, graphics, food and drink. It will feature over 40 installations where you can watch demonstrations and learn about the histories of products, artworks, musical movements and dance.
